MLK Day saw 9 top Division 1 schools and 2 pro organizations take part in Elite Baseball Training’s College Workout Day at Ho Chunk Indoor Complex.  70 participants came in two time slots from the Chicago White Sox ACE program, Elite Baseball Training 15U, and a handful of players from the Northern Illinois Reds 17U and 15U Future Elite team attended the workout.  The Chicago White Sox and Kansas City Royals had scouts at hand as well as D1 schools like the University of Notre Dame, the Big East’s Louisville, Missouri (soon to be in the SEC), Big Ten schools Iowa, Indiana and Northwestern; as well as state schools Northern Illinois, Bradley and Eastern Illinois.  The coaches were thrilled with the talent on hand and mentioned it will give them a head start in recruiting amongst the younger classes.
Showcase Director, Justin Stone added, “Being a former Division 1 assistant, I’ve had relationships with these guys for a long time.  It’s nice to be able to bring them in by just sending a text message, and it turns out to be something like this.  To be able to charge just $50 to cover our expenses and give so many players this opportunity is exciting to me.  So often for an event like this, players would have to pay $200-$300.  We have found that it really helps players in the recruiting process when the coaches can get to know the kids.  When you structure a small event like this, the coaches really get to know them on a personal level and remember them…that is the important part.  For our 15U Elite guys this has opened so many doors already that freshmen just don’t get.  I’ve had parents tell me how much interest they are getting before their son’s have even played their first high school game.  That is exactly why we put these things together.”
Elite Baseball Training is already working on their fall scout day – partnering with top teams in the I-94 league.  We will report details on that as they develop.
