There is certainly more to hitting than just mechanics. No doubt about it. But when a player comes to us, it is a challenge and our duty to help a player get his swing as mechanically sound as possible. I have a 15 year old player, named Ryan who has been hitting with me since the fall. He is very smart, and both he and his dad are really into mechanics. His dad has become quite the video analyst himself now. We’ve been tweaking a lot of things over time – striding across his body and block his hips, hip slide, and actually staying “too closed” (if you can believe that) preventing his synchronization from the ground to start on time. But recently, my eyes and the 2D high speed analysis said, “We’ve got you where we want you.” and I suggested the 3D analysis which would reveal if there was any little thing the computer could pick up that we could not through 2D analysis. The result: One of the best sequences we have seen to date (including the pro players). As you see below, a swing that is in perfect “sync” has all the lines start together and each one peel off of the other at a higher peak. This is the legs, core, torso, arms and bat feeding into the next segment to increase the output of that segment. Great job Ryan!
