Double Play Runner Simulation Drill

Simulating the feel of a “game like” double play is difficult in practice.  It’s one thing to turn a double play without runners, but another when you have a runner bearing down on top of you.  This is especially true for the second baseman as he can feel the runner coming, but can’t see him completely because he is square to the shortstop or third baseman while receiving the feed.  We do this drill to make sure our middle guys clear the bag in their footwork, but also get the feeling of a runner coming at them.  The drill makes them realize that with correct footwork, they will be protected.  Take a look at this drill video to learn the mechanics of the turn during the drill.
