May 20th was the first day of the Missouri Valley Conference Baseball Championships in Terre Haute, IN. Twenty to thirty MLB area scouts and national crosscheckers looked on to make final evaluations of several MVC prospects that will be chosen in the upcoming draft. Three of these prospects are worth noting, as they could be first round picks. Kyle Freeland (LHP, Evansville), Sam Coonrod (RHP, Southern Illnois) and Casey Gillaspie (1B, Wichita St.) have been climbing draft boards all spring. Elite Baseball Training was on hand to do a mechanical efficiency analysis of each of these prospects.
Note, there is much more into making a successful pro than sheer mechanics (especially on the hitting side), but the analysis can give good insight to the ceiling of a player. Check out the videos below.
Kyle Freeland (LHP, Evansville) – Perfect Game has Freeland listed as the #7 pick in their May 21st mock draft.
Sam Coonrod (RHP, Southern Illinois) – Perfect Game has Coonrod listed as the 69th best draft prospect overall.
Casey Gillaspie (1B, Wichita State) – Perfect Game has Gillaspie as the 20th pick in the 1st round in the May 21 mock draft.
