Skala most recently served as the Hitting Coach at Wheaton College where he led a record setting offense. In 2022, the Thunder offense tied the school record for doubles, and set new marks for triples and walks. They also finished top 5 in school history in Home Runs, Slugging Percentage, and RBIs despite playing in the fewest number of games in over a decade.

Prior to Wheaton College, Jake coached in North Dakota at Minot State University and worked at Johansen Baseball where he was trained in using advanced technology to develop hitters.
